A Few Words About These Evaluations

As some time has gone by since many of these jacket evaluations have been published, it is worth noting a few points about the objectives of the evaluations, how they came about, and what is intended for the future.

Objectives
Because of the specialty nature of these reproduction flight jackets, they are not to be found for sale at the local mall. Short of ordering them or searching for customers who live nearby, there are few opportunities for potential customers to fully examine these jackets to decide if they meet their needs or expectations.

In an attempt to provide the kind of detailed information one might be looking for when examining a reproduction jacket, these evaluations have been produced and presented as descriptive and visual references.

Jacket sources and selection
Evaluated jackets have come from different sources. Some manufacturers, recognizing the benefits of exposure and of maintaining a cordial relationship, have offered jackets on loan specifically for evaluation, while other makers prefer not to participate in this manner or they rule themselves out on other grounds. Many jackets have been loaned to me by their owners. Almost none of them belong to me. I have not bought jackets simply to examine them and then sell them, nor am I interested in doing this.

The availability of jackets, then, was dependent upon the sources, and this accounts for the incomplete distribution of published jacket evaluations. I simply took what I could get. And while I was interested in presenting as much of a jacket selection as I could, ultimately this was limited by availability as well as by my time, effort, and expense. It's just a hobby for fun, after all, not a business.

Future
Many people over the years have found these evaluations to be very useful and helpful in selecting a jacket that would best suit their interests. But over these same years I have had experienced a diminishing passion for pursuing jackets to evaluate and for keeping up with new or evolving repros. I have not done a new evaluation in over three years. The reality is, I'm done. But rather than delete these evaluations entirely from the site, I am leaving them here solely as historical reference.
